The Corporation

The present version of the Corporation des Pilotes du Fleuve et de la Voie Maritime du Saint-Laurent was formed on May 23, 1961. It is part of the Canadian Marine Pilot's Association (CMPA) which incorporates 400 members across Canada, and was founded in 1966 to foster public awareness of the role of marine pilots in protecting public safety and the environment.

The CMPA is divided into four regions: the Pacific, Atlantic, the Laurentian, and the Great Lakes. The Corporation des Pilotes du Fleuve et de la Voie Maritime du Saint-Laurent is one four corporations which make up the Great Lakes Region.
